Stuart, FL

July 2005: This year we chose to celebrate the 4th of July week in the Stuart, FL, area with Scott's parents and niece, Christina.  We were fortunate to get out on the boat almost every day to explore some of the dive sites that area has to offer on Gene's 31 ft. Jupiter, a beautiful center console boat.

As we had never dived in Stuart, it took us a day or two to get the hang of the currents and the dive sites, but with some help from Steve at the Stuart Dive Center, we quickly got the hang of it.

Probably the most amazing feature of the diving in this area was the Goliath Grouper.  There were dozens of them on each of the wrecks we dived on and they were huge as their name might suggest.

Christina helped on the boat most days and we took her to the pool every afternoon where she learned to snorkel - perhaps she is a diver in the making :-).

We dove four sites throughout the week - The Sandlot (this is a site that is unique to us...we thought we were at the Loran Tower Ledge but ended up diving sand);  The Barges (three barges that were sunk as an artificial reef); the south end of the Loran Tower Ledge (we eventually found it); and the Esso Bonaire III (147ft. harbor tanker built in 1926 and sunk in 1981 as an artificial reef).  Check out some of our dive pictures (and some of Christina's snorkeling shots)!
