Our first day of real diving
(the day we arrived we did a buoyancy check dive just outside of Port Ayora
in Baltra) took place at Masquera in North Seymour. As soon as we
rolled off the panga we were face to face with our first hammerhead.
We instantly knew we were in for a treat. We did two dives at Masquera
before heading to shore for our first land excursion. On land we
saw land iguanas, marina iguanas, blue footed boobies, frigate birds, lava
lizards, Galapagos sea lions and all kinds of endemic plants.
Our dive masters were also
Galapagos Marine Sanctuary Naturalist Guides and proved to be a wealth of
information about all things Galapagos. What was amazing (and
instantly noticeable) was the fact that everything on Galapagos truly is
preserved. The people (both the indigenous people and visitors alike)
truly respect the land and water and all that is represents.
