Day Six

January 1, 2004:
Just as being in the water was a great way to end the year, starting the year that was was just as incredible.  The first dive was at Nice Wall.  We were among the first in the water on this dive.  The wall is an oval-shaped coral patch with the top of it sitting in about 80 feet of water and the bottom in about 130.  Because there was a current, we swam from the mooring line to the side of the wall and dropped down.  We hung out on the side for a bit and hung out with the horse-eyed jacks.  As we rounded the corner, we heard California-Carol and Bob's horns going crazy.  We figured they had seen something cool, but thought maybe it would be gone before we turned around.  A few minutes later, Mike and Debbie swam around and asked us if we had seen the huge hammerhead.  We couldn't believe it!  It couldn't have been more than 50 feet from us.  We were so bummed...there is nothing more disappointing than knowing it was there and not seeing it.  But, it gives us something to look forward to on future dives.

The final dive of the trip was at Hawksbill Reef.  It was a nice 60-70 foot patch-reef (we dove this the last dive of the trip in July).  We saw a sleeping ray, a lot of barracuda and a flounder.  It was a relaxing dive that we didn't want to see end.

All-in-all it was a great trip!
