We arrived in Grand Cayman on
Thursday afternoon and headed straight to the
Sunset House, a resort by divers for divers. We didn't
want to waste any time, so we went straight to the onsite dive shop to rent
our tanks and find out where we should go to see the most. The dive
master directed us to the two most popular sites you can access from the
shore - The wreck of the David Nicholson and Amphitrite, the 9ft. bronze
mermaid. Because the dive shop closes at 5:30 pm, we were only able to get one dive in the first afternoon - but it was great! After the dive, we cleaned up and headed to the SeaHarvest for dinner. On Friday, we did three dives...the first one from the shore, the second two we did a surface swim to the wreck and from there, headed to the wall. On the second dive of the day, as we were swimming to the wall, we saw a huge shape off in the distance. We both thought we had hit the motherload - we thought we were seeing a whale shark...as we swam closer, we realized it wasn't a whale shark, rather it was a submarine taking non-diving tourists to divers depths. We swam past it for a while, waving and becoming a part of many people's vacation photo album. Saturday morning we did two more shore dives from the Sunset House before we packed up our gear and headed to the Cayman Aggressor IV. It was a great way to start our time in the Caymans and six dives shore dives was exactly the right amount. Check out the pictures of the
wreck of the David Nicholson, the mermaid, the submarine and all the amazing
sea life. |
