Monterey Bay, CA

It had been almost 13 years since Sara had spent Christmas in California with her family so we decided to spend the holidays with the West Coast fam and spend a little time underwater.

We had planned to dive five days  - two at Point Lobos, one unknown and two boat dives.  Unfortunately Scott's sinuses and the weather had a different plan for us.  The first three days Sara dove with Jonathan DeRossier - a Monterey resident.  He took her to Point Lobos each day and introduced her to scooter diving.  Using Dive Xtras X-Scooter, Sara got to see some of the most awesome scenery Monterey Bay has to offer.  It took her a few dives to get the hang of it, but once she did, she was hooked.  On the dives, they scooted through kelp forests, saw a war bonnet, a wolf eel and many other fish.  It was diving Sara won't soon forget.

By Saturday, Scott's sinus infection had started to clear and he was able to get in the water - sadly the boat was cancelled for the weekend.  So, we headed down to Breakwater Cove and did two days of shore diving there.  The highlight of that dive site for both of us had to be diving with the sea lions.  They were very playful and obviously not phased by divers.  We also saw a cormorant swimming under water...we had seen them dive from the surface but we had never seen one swim.  The wall was teeming with life which made the dives that much more interesting and entertaining.

While Scott was disappointed he did not get to dive Pt. Lobos, we figure it's just a good excuse to go back and dive it again soon!
